Rule reminder

Ellipsis omits words that are recoverable from the context. It creates cohesion because the omission makes sense only if the reader connects the elliptical sentence to what was said before. Types: (1) VERB ELLIPSIS: 'Io studio matematica; anche lui [studia matematica].' (2) NOUN ELLIPSIS: 'Ho preso il libro rosso e [il libro] blu.' (3) GAPPING: 'Maria parla italiano e Paolo [parla] francese.' Ellipsis is stylistically neat but requires clear context.
