Weather Expressions·C'è / Ci Sono in the Past
💡

Rule reminder

Past tense of c'è: c'era (imperfetto) = there was. Past tense of ci sono: c'erano (imperfetto) = there were. For completed states: ci fu / ci sono stati (passato prossimo) — less common for weather. C'era and c'erano are the most natural for past weather descriptions.
