Italian word

illuso

deceived, under an illusion, foolishly hopeful

Looks like

illusory

based on illusion; not real

⚠️ The trap

'Illuso' as a noun/adjective means someone who is naively mistaken or under an illusion. It is NOT the same as 'deluso' (disappointed). 'Povero illuso' is a common Italian expression.

To say "based on illusion; not real" in Italian:

illuso → someone who believes false things; illusorio → illusory

"illuso" in English means:

deceived, under an illusion, foolishly hopeful

Example

"Povero illuso — pensava davvero di vincere."

"Poor deluded soul — he really thought he would win."
