Italian word

ordinare

to order (goods); to tidy up; to prescribe (medicine)

Looks like

to ordain

to officially appoint (a priest); to order by law

⚠️ The trap

'Ordinare' is the normal word for placing an order with a supplier. In English 'to ordain' is almost exclusively religious. In Italian the same verb covers both meanings.

To say "to officially appoint (a priest); to order by law" in Italian:

ordinare (to order goods/tidy); ordinare sacerdote (to ordain)

"ordinare" in English means:

to order (goods); to tidy up; to prescribe (medicine)

Example

"Ho ordinato i nuovi cataloghi al fornitore."

"I ordered the new catalogues from the supplier."
