Italian word

lordo

gross (before deductions); dirty/filthy

Looks like

lord

a nobleman; a title of authority

⚠️ The trap

'Lordo' means gross (before tax) and also dirty/filthy. It does not mean lord. In payroll documents 'lordo' vs 'netto' is one of the most important distinctions.

To say "a nobleman; a title of authority" in Italian:

lordo (gross/dirty); nobile / lord (nobleman)

"lordo" in English means:

gross (before deductions); dirty/filthy

Example

"Lo stipendio lordo è di tremila euro, quello netto di duemila."

"The gross salary is three thousand euros, the net is two thousand."
