Is the map up to date?
'Aggiornata' — ad-jor-NA-ta. The 'gg' before 'i' is soft; stress on the third syllable.
Ask when you pick up a tourist map and want to know how current the information is. Italian towns frequently close streets for festivals, construction, or pedestrianisation.
'Aggiornato' means up to date or updated. It comes from 'aggiornare' (to update) from 'giorno' (day) — literally to bring up to today. 'La mappa è aggiornata?' (is the map current?) is important because paper maps can be months or years out of date.

Italian municipalities frequently update their traffic plans, especially in historic centres. Pedestrianisation projects and ZTL expansions are common and often not reflected in recently printed tourist maps. For the most current information, use Waze or Google Maps which update in near-real-time.
