Can I stand on the bus?
'In piedi' — 'in-PYE-di'. These two words mean 'standing up' literally 'on feet'.
Relevant when the bus is very full and all seats are taken, or when you want to confirm it is acceptable to stand for your journey.
'Stare in piedi' means to stand up. 'Sull'autobus' is 'on the bus'. Italian urban buses allow standing passengers up to a legal maximum, clearly marked inside the vehicle.

Standing on Italian buses is perfectly normal and expected during rush hour. Passengers are required by law to hold a rail or strap — drivers brake sharply and standing without support is genuinely dangerous.
