Inform any doctor prescribing medications. The pill interacts with many drugs, including antibiotics and anticonvulsants.
'La pillola anticoncezionale' = oral contraceptive pill. Also: 'contraccettivi orali'. Italian brands: 'Yasmin', 'Minesse', 'Diane 35', 'Klaira'. Important interactions: rifampicin (antibiotic for TB — renders pill ineffective), some anticonvulsants. Also: proton pump inhibitors may slightly reduce absorption. Tell any prescribing doctor — especially important for antibiotics.
Gli antibiotici riducono l'efficacia della pillola?
Do antibiotics reduce the efficacy of the pill?
Most antibiotics do NOT reduce pill efficacy — rifampicin is the main exception
Ho dimenticato la pillola ieri. Cosa faccio?
I forgot the pill yesterday. What do I do?
Refer to your pill leaflet — different pills have different missed-pill protocols
Voglio cambiare contraccettivo. Può consigliarmi?

Many options in Italy: IUD ('spirale'), implant ('impianto sottocutaneo'), patch ('cerotto'), ring ('anello vaginale')
The contraceptive pill ('pillola') has been available in Italy since 1967 — initially restricted, then fully legalised. Italy has relatively low contraceptive pill use compared to northern Europe — Italian women often prefer barrier methods or IUDs. The pill requires a gynaecologist prescription ('prescrizione del ginecologo') in Italy. Emergency contraception ('pillola del giorno dopo') is a separate product and does not affect regular pill use.
