Rule reminder

In journalistic Italian, impersonal constructions serve different functions: 'si dice che' / 'si vocifera che' (it is said that — rumour), 'si ritiene che' (it is believed that — opinion), 'si stima che' (it is estimated that — statistics), 'si teme che' (it is feared that — concern), 'si spera che' (it is hoped that — hope). All take the subjunctive in the subordinate clause (they express beliefs/opinions, not facts). 'Si calcola che' and 'si prevede che' in economic contexts also take subjunctive when expressing projections.
