Rule reminder
Journalistic Italian uses connectives differently from academic writing. Journalists favour: eppure (yet), anzi (in fact / rather), tanto che (so much so that), difatti / infatti (in fact), eppure, stando a (according to), a fronte di (in the face of / against). They avoid altresì, nondimeno, and overly academic phrasing. Sentences are shorter; connectives create punch.
A newspaper headline analysis: 'Il governo promette riforme. ___, i sondaggi mostrano un calo di fiducia.' Best connective:
