I hope we will see each other again soon!
'Rivediamo' = ri-ve-DIA-mo. 'Spero' = SPE-ro, stress on first syllable.
Use this at the end of a positive first meeting to leave the door open for future contact. Adding 'spero' (I hope) makes it warm without being presumptuous. It is the natural Italian way to close an encounter while expressing genuine interest.
'Rivedersi' (to see each other again) uses the prefix 'ri-' meaning again. 'Ci rivediamo' is reflexive: 'we see each other again'. 'Spero' (I hope) at the end adds a hopeful, optative tone. The phrase is complete by itself.
È stato un piacere! A presto!
It has been a pleasure! See you soon!
'A presto' is the standard Italian casual farewell
Mi fa piacere averti conosciuto/a.
It makes me happy to have met you.
Expressing satisfaction at the end of the encounter
Spero di sentirti presto.
I hope to hear from you soon.
'Sentirsi' = to hear from each other — used for phone/message contact
Italian goodbyes are often extended and heartfelt — the concept of the 'commiato italiano' (Italian farewell) is recognised even within Italy. Saying goodbye at a dinner party or casual gathering can take thirty minutes as the farewell is drawn out with warm words, final anecdotes, and repeated 'dai, ci vediamo!' (come on, see you!).
